I make no apologies for being a traditional Conservative with a modern outlook. Fiona and I owe everything we've achieved to the opportunities we were given by previous Conservative governments, opportunities which I feel passionately all our children deserve. I believe in our institutions, our way of life and the shared values which have been at the core of our society for decades. I believe in loyalty, to my country, my friends, family and community and yes, to my party too. I believe that the best place for children to grow up is in a loving home with both their parents, though I recognise that can't always happen. I don't believe in the grand European project, the nanny state or the centralisation of power, whether it's in Brussels or Whitehall. I don't believe in spending more than we've earned or in penalising those who've saved for their old age.
